Ruchika Social Service
Organization brings education to all the children in
need. With ALL it means all children irrespective of
caste creed and various disabilities.
We believe every
child has the right to education good health and dream
big. To make this possible we lend our full support to
them. |
Around 20 children have already been
identified and rehabilitated. And such are the case of Sk.
Salim, Uchhab Nayak and Sumitra Nayak. All three have been
identified as victims of loco motor disability. They have been
admitted in NIRTAR (National Institute of Rehabilitation
Training and Research), 40 km. away from RSSO Bhubaneswar.
We have limited funds for the
purpose, as these children will be admitted for at least a
period of 2 months. Apart from medicines, they also need
nutrition and one attendant to look after them at the hospital,
which is quite a distant from Ruchika, Bhubaneswar. Whereas
Uchhab and Sumitra also need some surgical rods.

Sk. Salim
He gives you the inspiration
to smile in all adversities. A rag picker lost his right
leg in a train accident. This resulted in his inability
to speak. He has been residing in ASRA, a shelter home
for destitute, run by Ruchika. But no further treatment
seemed possible till NIRTAR (National Institute of
Rehabilitation Training and Research) medical personnel
suggested for re-surgery and removal of the bad stump.
The director of the Institute was requested for free
treatment to which he agreed. Having arranged a 24 hr
attendant for him, he was admitted to the hospital on 26th
July. Under strict supervision, he is improving.
However, it will take a lot of expenditure and perhaps 3
to 4 month to recover completely. |

Uchhab Nayak
His story sets the example
of how illiteracy, ignorance and poverty are all
interlinked. Born in poor family of a illiterate trolley
puller, Uchhab was affected with Bilateral CTEV since
birth, which also affected other parts of the leg.
Walking and attending to simple chores became a problem
for him. His family leads a hand to mouth existence.
That deprived him of proper treatment and rehabilitation
services. RSSO identified the child and assisted him to
get a tricycle for easy mobility. Diagnosed by the
specialized orthopedic rehabilitation personnel at
NIRTAR. He was advised for a surgery (ring operation),
and the time required for him to recover would be at
least 2 months. As expected due to financial constraints
the parents did not agree to stay with the child in the
hospital for such a long time and bear the expenditure
of attendant and medicines. The other thing that
bothered them was the fear of the child’s condition
getting worst after the operation, and he might loose
his ability to walk. After counseling the parents agreed
for the operation and Uchhab was admitted at NITAR,
Ollatpur, Cuttack. After few days of admission, the
doctor prescribed for surgical rods. |

Sumitra Nayak
Her story is of grit and
courage, being a girl and being born in male chauvinist
country like India, Sumitra is the face of the
courageous Indian girl who can fight against all odds to
get herself a decent education. Suffering from
congenital bilateral CTEV, does not dithers her spirit
to attend her school daily. Seeing her classmates
playing games in the lunch break, makes her heart yearn
to run and play a game of hopscotch, this is the only
time where in she feels helpless. Her father a daily
laborer, had migrated to Bhubaneswar 8 years ago in
search of work. Certain treatments were tried in
Sumitra’s childhood, but it did not help. On coming to
Bhubaneswar, they got the information that Sumitra can
lead a normal life after an operation. Her father
visited NIRTAR many a times, but backed out from the
treatment due to financial constraints. Sumitra’s case
was identified and intervened by RSSO, who assisted the
family in preparing documents for the subsidized
treatment. Subsequently, she was taken to the National
Rehabilitation Institute, where they advised for
surgical correction. Now she is on the waiting list and
will get the bed very soon.

All
these 3 children have a right to stand on their own feet
and lead a normal life to sing, dance and play, which is
expected from children of their age. And who knows in
the future they might even help someone like them. However, to realize their dreams they need your help.
Therefore, it is requested to kindly extend any
financial assistance for these three helpless children,
by which we would be able to provide proper treatment
and rehabilitation services.
