01. Non-Formal Schools:

Serving over 3,000 children, their parents and siblings, and other members of the community, 100 non-formal education centers are located throughout the slums of Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas. Operating for four each day in makeshift shacks, under trees, or wherever space is available, these centers provide a supportive educational environment for slum children, school dropouts, and child laborers aged six to fourteen.

Each center is provided with a transportable trunk of school supplies, which includes, among other things, RSSO text books and work books, slates, chalk, pencils, books, puppets, and flashcards. In special hygiene classes held on Saturdays, children are bathed, oiled, groomed, and taught how to properly care for themselves. The teachers of the centers also play crucial roles within the community. Operating as guardians, counselors, social workers, and nurses, teachers interact with the families of their students, ensuring that parents are acting responsibly concerning the education, health, and general welfare of the children. Additionally, when a student mainstreams into regular school, teachers are available to guide and support them through the difficult transition.
