Blood donation camp at RSSO

Ruchika Social Service Organization organized a blood donation camp, in collaboration with Sarvodaya International Trust, Orissa Chapter, on August 16. The camp was held at the organisation’s Samantrapur office premise. Around 30 Staff members of RSSO donated blood in the camp.

RSSO runs three 24 hours telephone helpline services, viz: Childline (for children below 18, in distress), Helpline (for women in distress) and Accident Helpline (for accident victims), all dedicated to the under privileged strata of society.

Frequently there are situations where the person or child rescued is in need of blood, and there is either no matching blood sample available or a shortage of people volunteering to donate blood. In India, about three million units of blood are collected annually against a requirement of seven million, for a population of 900 million.

An estimate puts the annual number of accidental deaths in India at 85,000, with maximum deaths due to shortage of blood. However, the most hard-hit are the marginalized sections of the society.

The aim of this blood donation camp was to store the collected blood samples for the under privileged victims.

RSSO also sees this as an opportunity to thank the Blood Bank, which has always unhesitatingly helped the victims of Childline, Helpline and Accident Helpline.
