A 2-day programme of “Cancer Awareness, Education and Detection Camp” was organized by Ruchika Social Service Organisation on 11th and 12th of November, 2006 in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Orissa, India.

The programme was an occasion for gaining valuable insights on cancer awareness, prevention and treatment shared by Dr. Jyoti Mayadev, an eminent oncologist and practitioner at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. She was in India attending the physics meeting in radiation oncology in early November, 06. She shared some time from her busy schedule to visit Ruchika Social Service Organisation. In the 2-day programme, she focused particularly on women's health, gynaecology and breast cancer and in orienting the field workers to what needs to be for cancer prevention and recovery.

She was accompanied by Dr Jalali of the Tata Memorial Cancer Institute, Mumbai (Bombay). A group of doctors from the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Institute, Cuttack, Orissa led by Dr. S.N. Senapati assisted her in the detection programme. A total of 160 field workers of RSSO attended the pre-awareness and education programme on 11.11.06 in Ruchika premises. 7 cases could be identified during the detection camp followed by suggested treatment. Dr. Mayadev also addressed a gathering of elite women at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhaban auditorium.
